Men's Bracelet Size Guide: How to Measure Your Wrist

Black matte agate beaded men's bracelet on an elastic cord, available in 17cm to 21cm sizes

Most men's bracelet sizing mistakes come down to one thing: measuring the bracelet you want instead of the wrist you have. Take two minutes with a tape or a strip of paper, add a little room for comfort, and you'll land on the right size first time.

To find your men's bracelet size, measure around your wrist just above the wrist bone, then add about 1cm for a snug fit, 1.5 to 2cm for a comfortable fit, or 2.5cm for a loose fit. Most of our bead and leather bracelets come in 17cm to 21cm, so pick the size closest to that total. The chart and tips below cover bead size, bracelet type and how to guess a size when you're buying a gift.

How do I measure my wrist for a bracelet?

You only need one of two simple tools.

With a soft tape measure

  1. Wrap the tape around your wrist just above the wrist bone, where a bracelet naturally sits.
  2. Keep it flat against the skin. It should be snug, not tight.
  3. Read the number where the tape overlaps, in centimetres.

With a strip of paper or string

  1. Wrap a thin strip of paper (or a piece of non-stretch string) around the same spot.
  2. Mark where the end meets the strip with a pen.
  3. Lay it flat against a ruler and measure from the end to your mark.

Measure twice to be sure, and measure the wrist you'll actually wear it on. Many men wear a bracelet on the opposite wrist to their watch, and wrists aren't always the same size.

How much room should a men's bracelet have?

Your wrist measurement is not your bracelet size. A bracelet needs some extra length so it can move and sit comfortably. Use this as a guide:

  • Snug fit: add about 1cm. Sits close to the skin and moves very little. Good if you wear it under a shirt cuff.
  • Comfortable fit: add 1.5 to 2cm. The most popular choice. It moves a little without sliding down your hand.
  • Loose fit: add about 2.5cm. Drapes and moves freely, a relaxed look that suits chunkier styles.

What size bracelet should I get? (Wrist size chart in cm)

Find your wrist measurement in the left column, then read across to the bracelet size for the fit you like. Sizes are matched to the 17cm to 21cm sizes we stock, rounded to the nearest size.

Your wrist Snug (+1cm) Comfortable (+1.5 to 2cm) Loose (+2.5cm)
15.5cm 17cm 17cm 18cm
16cm 17cm 18cm 19cm
16.5cm 18cm 18cm 19cm
17cm 18cm 19cm 20cm
17.5cm 19cm 19cm 20cm
18cm 19cm 20cm 21cm
18.5cm 20cm 20cm 21cm
19cm 20cm 21cm 21cm

If you fall between two sizes, go up for a bead bracelet and down for a clasp bracelet you'd like to sit neatly.

Does bead size change the bracelet size I need?

Yes, a little. Bigger beads take up more room on the inside of the bracelet, so a bracelet with large beads feels tighter than one with small beads at the same length. As a rule of thumb:

  • 4mm to 8mm beads: use the chart as it is.
  • 10mm to 12mm beads: consider going up one size if you're near the top of a range.
  • 14mm beads and larger: go up one size for a comfortable fit.

Our Black Matte Agate Beaded Bracelet is a good example. It comes in 4mm to 12mm beads and 17cm to 21cm sizes, from A$32, on a silicone-coated elastic cord that slips on and off. The Black Obsidian Beaded Bracelet goes up to 14mm beads, from A$48, so it's worth thinking about bead size before you choose a length.

How should different types of bracelet fit?

The style of bracelet changes how much room you want.

How do I guess his bracelet size for a gift?

Buying a surprise makes measuring tricky, but there are a few easy workarounds:

  • Measure a bracelet he already owns. Lay it flat and measure the inside length, end to end (including the clasp). That's his bracelet size, not his wrist size, so don't add extra.
  • Borrow his watch. Measure the strap on the hole he uses, from the buckle pin to the hole. Add about 1.5cm and use the chart.
  • Go by build. If you really can't measure, 19cm sits in the middle of our 17cm to 21cm range, so it's the safest starting point. Size up for a broad, tall frame and down for a slim one.
  • Choose a cuff. A flexible cuff fits most wrists, which takes the guesswork out.

If the size isn't right, returns are accepted within 15 days of receiving the order, subject to our returns policy.

People also ask

What is the average bracelet size for a man?

There isn't one standard size, because wrists vary a lot from man to man. Our bead and leather bracelets run from 17cm to 21cm, with 19cm in the middle, but measuring takes two minutes and is far more reliable than guessing.

Should a men's bracelet be tight or loose?

Most men prefer a comfortable fit with a finger's width of room, about 1.5 to 2cm more than the wrist. It should move a little but not slide over your hand.

Is a 19cm bracelet too big?

A 19cm bracelet suits a wrist of about 17cm to 17.5cm for a comfortable fit. On a 16cm wrist it will feel loose; on an 18.5cm wrist it will feel tight.

Do I measure my wrist bone or above it?

Measure just above the wrist bone, towards your hand, where the bracelet will actually sit.

Can I wear a bracelet with my watch?

Yes. Choose a slightly snugger bracelet so it doesn't knock against the watch case. Our guide on how to wear bracelets with a watch has more tips.
